9–25 October 2026, Magenta
Visione Granito is an immersive installation by Margherita Bellodi for the Biennale di Magenta. Transforming the vault of a former bank, the artist creates a space to move through and contemplate, where matter becomes landscape and light continuously reshapes its perception.
The work stems from the reimagining of metal mesh: a lightweight, malleable industrial material, originally used to enclose and define space. Removed from its conventional function, it is shaped to evoke the surface of granite. Its woven structure recalls the complexity of this ancient, dense and layered stone—a symbol of solidity, geological memory and permanence. What appears to be rock is, in fact, a delicate balance of solids and voids: a lightweight construction that questions the boundary between reality and perception.
First presented during Salone del Mobile 2026, Visione Granito takes on a new site-specific form within the spaces of the Biennale di Magenta. The vault—a place historically intended to safeguard value—is reimagined as a mineral cavity, a contemporary grotto in which wealth shifts from the economic realm to one of sensory and experiential value.
The entire space is permeated by magenta light, which envelops the material and alters its presence. It recalls the moment when sunset ignites rock with intense, shifting reflections. Referencing both the colour and the name of the city of Magenta, this light becomes more than a chromatic element: it is a narrative device connecting place, history and artwork in a single perceptual experience.
Visitors are invited to physically enter the installation and move through a space where architecture, sculpture and light converge. The work unfolds as an immersive environment in which the lightness of metal is transformed into the apparent solidity of stone, while the vault sheds its closed, protective role to become a place of experience, connection and imagination. In this shift of meaning, matter no longer safeguards material value, but rather the experience of looking itself—capable of turning metal mesh into a geological vision suspended between artifice and nature.
