Di luci e ombre. Di alberi is the title of the exhibition opening on November 20 at 18:30 in Milan, at Via Pietro Maroncelli 14. The exhibition aims to tell the story of the artist Margherita Bellodi, showcasing her journey and her art.
Margherita (born in Novi di Modena, Italy in 1966) studied at the State Art Institute of Modena, specializing in fashion. After completing her studies, she began her career as a designer, which allowed her to express her creativity. This phase, focused on the design process, was both fulfilling and exciting for her. Beyond fashion, Margherita is passionate about the visual arts and has explored various creative fields. From designing stage sets to studying restoration, gold leaf gilding, trompe-l’œil, and airbrush techniques, she constantly expanded her skills. Fascinated by medieval and chancery writing, her sketchbooks are like small worlds full of discovery. Her career as a fashion designer, though creative, soon felt limiting. Margherita left the fashion world behind to fully embrace her passion for painting Passion, reinvention, and experimentation define her artistic journey, as she shifts from fashion sketches
The title of the exhibition, Di luci e ombre. Di alberi reflects the heart of the artist’s vision, revealing her deep and sincere love for trees. For Margherita, trees are vital to our lives —they provide oxygen, precious air—and she dreams of bringing them into places where they are absent, like in our homes, for instance. Each of her works, in this sense, represents a tree that can be placed where it is needed, She seeks to create a new aesthetic balance, one that perhaps also brings a sense of inner harmony.
These paintings stand out for their monochrome textural strokes that create the background, setting the stage for the real subject of the work: the tree. The branches and trunks intertwine extending with precision across the canvas. What starts as detailed lines gradually transforms into abstract patches, almost geometric in nature. While Margherita’s earlier work was defined by elegance, structure, and tranquility, her painting allows room for the imperfection of the stain. This spontaneous element, spreading across the canvas, frees her from past constraints and expands her art into a new, open dimension.
The exhibition will be open during the following days and times:
